The base of each is marked MAILLE 1747 with MODÈLE DÉPOSÉ and the capacity, 12\/13 cl. One is glazed in a warm ochre yellow, the other left plain cream, and the difference between them is the point: they read as a pair with two lives rather than a matching set. Both are printed crisply and neither has chips or cracks.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAntoine-Claude Maille opened his shop on the rue Saint-André-des-Arts in 1747 and the house still makes mustard today. Pots like these were the packaging; when the pot was empty it stayed in the kitchen.
