A French wrought iron chandelier of the early to mid twentieth century, its four hand-scrolled arms dressed with acanthus leaves in gilt and bronze, with brass fittings and a painted surface worn back to a soft sage green, breaking through in places to rust and old gilding beneath. It is complete on all four arms and structurally sound.

Wrought iron chandeliers like this one hung in French houses well into the twentieth century. It carries no maker's mark, and it was found in Amiens.

It has a quiet, sculptural presence above a table, an island or an entry, and it takes as readily to real candles as to wiring — lovely hung unelectrified, with the light moving in the gilding.

Condition and patina consistent with age. Needs rewiring.
Approx. 17.7" high x 17.7" wide, plus chain
Approx. 45cm high x 45cm wide, plus chain
