Beaded band and impressed Doulton Lambeth stamp on the jar

The Doulton Lambeth Jar

€69,00
SKU — PS9

An antique English stoneware jar by Doulton & Co of Lambeth, from the 1880s, in the classic two-tone glaze — a warm tan shoulder over a cream body, divided by a raised beaded band. The impressed stamp reads Doulton & Co Lambeth with "Registered" at its centre, and the rim is cut with two notches where a clip-on lid once locked in place. The lid is no longer with it; the jar itself is glossy and freckled with iron spots in the clay.

Long before its art pottery made the name famous, Doulton's Lambeth works on the Thames supplied Victorian Britain with sturdy stoneware jars, bottles and crocks.

Today it holds brushes, wooden spoons or a handful of dried flowers beautifully.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
