A French stoneware pitcher in deep cobalt blue glaze, dating from the middle decades of the twentieth century, straight sided with a single raised band at the neck and a broad strap handle. The grès body is dense and weighty in the hand, the glaze glossy and unbroken. Impressed to the base in a circular cartouche: DIGOIN · GRESPOTS · FRANCE, with the size number 2.

Digoin in Saône-et-Loire is among the better known French stoneware potteries, long linked with Sarreguemines and producing Grespots kitchenware through the post-war decades — jugs, crocks and preserving jars for the French household.

Beautifully placed on open shelving or a kitchen dresser, where the saturated blue reads strongly against white faïence.
