The Faisselle Pair
Two French cheese moulds in cream-glazed stoneware, kept together because they were made for the same shelf — the larger straight-sided with a rolled ochre rim, the smaller a size down in the same pale grey-cream.
Faisselles were the everyday tool of the dairy. Fresh curd went in, whey ran out through the holes cut down the walls and across the base, and what stayed behind became fromage blanc. Both are wheel-thrown and unmarked. France, c. 1920–1950.
Material: glazed stoneware (grès).
Condition: good. A hairline in the larger pot, not gone through. Light crazing over both and small glaze skips at the rims.
Measurements: larger H 7 × D 10 cm / H 2.75 × D 3.9 in · smaller H 6 × D 9 cm / H 2.4 × D 3.5 in.
Two sizes of the same shape, which is what makes them work standing together.
