SKU — KW24

A French bottle in warm putty-coloured grès, made for pouring rather than sealing: the short collar is pinched by hand into a small lip, and there is no fitting anywhere for a bail. Bottles of this shape held oil, vinegar and ink in the cork era.

Unmarked, France, circa 1880–1930. Stoneware with an unglazed base.

Condition: no chips of note, no cracks through the wall. The glaze is crazed evenly across the body — the age lines that give it its soft colour. One long fine line runs from shoulder to foot; it sits in the glaze only and does not pass through.

Measurements: H 28 × D 8 cm / H 11.0 × D 3.1 in.

It makes a very good single-stem vase.
