SKU — KD10

An antique French tile trivet, the tile late nineteenth to very early twentieth century, printed in blue underglaze with an Orientalist scene and set into a shaped hardwood frame on four turned bun feet, the frame most likely early 1900s. Crazing runs right across the glaze and has darkened to a warm tea tone, with brown speckling throughout. There is light nibbling to the tile edge and an old shrinkage split in the back boards, and the whole remains good and sound.

Blue transfer print on white faïence fine was the everyday decoration of the French table for the better part of a century, and Orientalist subjects ran through it as they ran through everything else of the period. A framed tile of this kind stood under a hot dish. It carries no maker's mark.

It hangs on a wall, props on a shelf, or sits under a potted plant.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
Approx. 10.2" square x 2.0" high
Approx. 26cm square x 5cm high
