The French Oriental Trivet
An antique French tile trivet — a blue transfer-printed earthenware tile set into a shaped hardwood frame on four turned bun feet.
The scene is Orientalist. Crazing runs right across the glaze and has darkened to a warm tea tone.
Unmarked, France. Tile antique, late 19th to very early 20th century; frame period, most likely early 1900s.
Material: white earthenware (faïence fine / terre de fer type) with blue underglaze transfer print; stained hardwood frame with turned feet.
Condition: good and sound. Allover crazing and brown speckling throughout. Light edge nibbling to the tile and an old shrinkage split in the back boards.
Measurements: 26 × 26 × 5 cm / 10.2 × 10.2 × 2.0 in.
Hung on a wall, propped on a shelf, or set under a potted plant.
