The Thistle Bouquet

A French still life in oil on canvas, signed lower right and dated 1956: a full bouquet of thistles gathered into a red-brown glazed earthenware jug, with two stems fallen across the table. Dusty rose, straw and moss green stand against a soft grey-green ground. The canvas is taut and sound with no tears or repairs; a pale bloom lies across the background, clearest in the upper left, and there is light edge wear with a few small paint losses at the extreme edges.

It is signed Andrée André-Reymond — not a listed name, so the painting stands on its own merit rather than on a reputation. It remains unframed and unvarnished on its original French stretcher, with the 12 F label still attached.

Unframed, it leans as readily as it hangs — along a mantel, against a wall of books, or propped on a dresser.
