The Allmoge Trough
A Swedish farm trough of the nineteenth or early twentieth century, gouged from one solid block and still showing the maker's tool strokes across the inside — a shallow well with lifting grips left standing at either end. Age cracks and old marks run through the wood, which has darkened to a soft honey, and the piece is sound.
Nothing about it was designed. It was cut to fit a household and a pair of hands, which is the whole character of Swedish allmoge woodwork and the reason it carries no signature. Bread dough was worked and proved here.
Set lengthwise it makes a quiet still life — cones, branches, dried seed heads, or nothing at all.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
