The Horsehair Sieve
An antique Swedish sieve with a round bentwood frame and a hand-woven horsehair mesh, laced to the rim with bast cord. The wood has a deep, warm patina from long use, and the stitched seam is still sound. A genuinely old, rustic piece.
Origin: Sweden. Maker: unsigned.
Material: bentwood frame with woven horsehair / fibre mesh.
Era: antique, likely 19th to early 20th century.
Condition: sound frame, mesh in place with honest age wear; rich dark patina, laced seam intact (wear and a little fibre loss are age, not damage).
Measurements: diameter 27 cm / 10.6 in, height 12 cm / 4.7 in.
Once used to sift flour and grain; now a beautifully textural piece to hang or display in a country kitchen.
