The Järvsö Trough
A large antique Swedish dough trough, hand-carved from a single piece of wood, with a softly scrubbed honey patina and raised handles at each end. An old inked owner's mark sits underneath — a quiet trace of the farm it came from. From Järvsö in Hälsingland.
Origin: Sweden (allmoge / folk-made). Maker: unsigned.
Material: solid carved wood.
Era: antique, likely 19th to early 20th century.
Condition: very good for its age — sound, with original patina, even wear and small age cracks consistent with use (character, not damage).
Measurements: length 63 cm / 24.8 in, width 22 cm / 8.7 in, height 8 cm / 3.1 in.
Once for kneading and proving bread; now a generous fruit bowl, a gathered centrepiece, or a sculptural piece on the table.
