The Grain Scoop
A Swedish grain scoop with a broad, deep blade in dark patinated metal, set into a shaped wooden back and held with two metal straps. The turned handle sits high above the blade, worn smooth and honey-coloured from use.
Scoops of this size measured out flour and grain in farm kitchens and country shops — made for a sack rather than a bowl, which is why the shape is so generous.
Origin: Sweden, found in Norrtälje. Era: vintage, likely early 20th century. Material: metal with a turned wood handle.
Measurements: length 42 cm (16.5 in), width 19 cm (7.5 in), height 8 cm (3.1 in).
Complete and sound, with a dark patina and rust marks from years of work.
Handsome hung on a wall, or leaning against a shelf among other country ware.
