The Skey Tamworth Flagon

SKU — PS10

An antique English stoneware flagon by George Skey of Tamworth, around 1900, in the classic two-tone salt glaze: a rich tan shoulder and neck over a creamy body, with a crisp impressed oval stamp reading SKEY 20 TAMWORTH. The glaze is glossy and whole, freckled with iron spots from the clay, with a small rust-coloured mark near the base.

Skey's Wilnecote Works supplied flagons like this to merchants across Victorian and Edwardian England, until the pottery was bought by Doulton in 1935.

Generous and sculptural, it makes a handsome vase for tall branches on the floor or on a dresser.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
Approx. 11¾" high x 7⅛" diameter
Approx. 30cm high x 18cm diameter
