The Anna Salad Bowl

A large Swedish footed bowl in the Anna pattern, printed in blue-green transfer on flintware by Aktiebolaget Göteborgs Porslinsfabrik, dating from around 1900 to 1920. It stands on a low trumpet foot, with three full bouquets of pansies, carnations and daisies falling from rocaille cartouches around the body and a narrow scrolled border running the whole way round the rim. Fine crazing covers the piece throughout and has drawn amber and tea-brown through the glaze; a fine darkened line runs a short way down from the rim on one side, long settled and leaving the bowl solid and standing true.

Anna was the factory's own pattern and its great success, printed here with the model name beneath the mark, in the original blue-green colourway that later gave the design its familiar Swedish name under Rörstrand.

At 26 cm across it carries a room on its own, on a dresser, at the centre of a table or on open shelving, holding dried stems or left empty.
