The Blackberry Luncheon Plates

Four flat French plates in terre de fer, printed in a soft blue-green with brambles, blackberries and serrated leaves, edged with a fine ivy border along a wide sloping rim.

Unmarked apart from an impressed mould number. The pattern matches the marked Badonviller plates listed separately here, which points to the same Lorraine pottery — likely, though not proven. Early 20th century.

• Era: early 20th century
• Material: terre de fer (French ironstone), transfer-printed under a cream glaze
• Condition: good, with character. No chips and no cracks. The transfer is softer here than on the marked plates — a little blurred in places, and it shifts in strength and tone from plate to plate. It is reflected in the price. The glaze carries an even warmth and fine crazing throughout.
