A tall plain white jug in white earthenware, Scandinavian, dating from the early to mid twentieth century. Straight sided and softly tapered, with a single raised band at the neck and a strong strap handle, its restraint the whole point of it. Impressed BF 4 to the base, a mould or size number rather than a maker's mark. Both jugs are sound and clean, one carrying marginally more crazing than the other.
Two matching jugs of this size rarely survive together, and they stand best as a pair.
Handsome on a dresser or console, and good for tall stems.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
