The Amiens Bowl
The Amiens Bowl
Found at an antiques market in Amiens, in northern France.
A classic French cafe au lait bowl, c. 1880–1920, in terre de fer with a dense transfer-printed garland of roses and wildflowers in deep blue on a creamy ground. Unmarked, as most everyday bols of the period were.
The glaze carries an even, fine crazing that has softened into a warm patina. There is wear along the rim and a thin, stable hairline through the body — priced accordingly, and quietly at home as a decorative piece.
