SKU — TB68

A two-piece French majolica asparagus service of the early to mid twentieth century, moulded in trompe-l'œil as a tied bundle of spears — green stems with soft pink tips, bound with a raffia bow — and hand-painted over the relief. A flat platter pairs with a raised pierced cradle, or égouttoir, standing on small ball feet. The glaze is clean and bright with no notable wear.

Asparagus had its own service in the French dining room, and the trompe-l'œil majolica of the period took the vegetable itself as the subject: the pierced cradle held the bundle above the platter so it drained as it came to table. Both pieces are unmarked.

Together they read as sculpture on a dresser or an open shelf, the pink and green sitting beautifully against plain white.

Excellent condition, with no notable wear.
Approx. 12.2" long x 7.1" wide x 3.1" high
Approx. 31cm long x 18cm wide x 8cm high
