The Compotier
The Compotier
Found at a market in France, this low compotier was made for serving fruit or compote — and works just as well today as a small cake stand or cheese plate.
The cream terre de fer body carries a finely drawn transfer border in a blue so deep it reads almost black: a lace-like scroll with small floral sprigs and a rope-twist edge. Unmarked, as much French ironstone of the period was, it dates to around 1880–1910.
Very good antique condition with no crazing, chips or cracks — just a gentle softening of the transfer from years of use.
Measurements: H 3.5 cm × 24 cm diameter (H 1.4 in × 9.4 in diameter).
