The Milkmaid Bowl
The Milkmaid Bowl
Found at a market in Amiens, northern France. A café au lait bowl from the first half of the 20th century, faceted and standing on a small pedestal foot, with a polychrome scene of farm life — a milkmaid carrying her yoke and pails, a boy feeding a cow, and a woman milking. Unmarked, likely Digoin & Sarreguemines, where the same scene appears on stamped bowls of the period.
Creamy white faience with fine crazing and a softly worn glaze. A tiny chip on the rim and a small hairline near the foot that does not affect use; light staining inside, consistent with age.
Measures 7 cm high × 13 cm in diameter (2.8 × 5.1 inches).
