Found at a market in Carpentras, in Provence.
A large French terre de fer basin from around the turn of the last century, transfer printed with pink rose bouquets and a garland border along the gently scalloped rim. Basins like this once belonged to washstand sets — today it makes a generous salad or serving bowl.
Unmarked, as much French terre de fer of this period is. Even crazing and a mellow patina, two small hairlines that do not affect the structure, light wear to the rim border.
